	Big Money Transfer Flops & Worst Buys Signing the wrong footballers happens all the time. After the late Jack Walker's spending era was over, Blackburn Rovers has always been careful in any expenditure. Hence paying a huge transfer fee for someone who doesn't fit in is almost unforgivable. The page list some of the fans' top choices of transfer flops. 	Corrado Grabbi (Forward) - £7m from Ternana, (Jan 2002) Graeme Souness had made some wise and shrewd signings in the market. Some bargain buys are Brad Friedel, David Thompson, and Morten Gamst Pedersen. When Souness paid £7m to bring unknown 27-years-old Grabbi from Serie B's Ternana, the fans were divided. a) Souness has played for Italian club Sampdoria, and has managed Italian club Torino for a short 6 match reign. (Hence assuming he know Italians well) c) "Ciccio", nickname of Grabbi, has been attracting Serie A admirers with his prolific strike rate - 24 goals in 61 games d) Souness has a good signing record and eye for talents. e) Newly-promoted Blackburn need bigger squad strength to survive relegation. The goals did not flow as promised, and then came the on-going injury. The arrival of £8m Andy Cole who would partner the favourite Matt Jansen, has ultimately spelt the end for the Italian after scoring only two goals in 19 appearances. Corrado Grabbi returned to Italy with Ancona eventually in 2003 without a transfer fee.



	Kevin Davis (Forward) - £7.5m from Southampton, (June 1998) Season 97/98 was the darkest period of all Blackburn Rovers fans. Alan Shearer has left for Newcastle United. Manager Roy Hodgson was busy in the transfer market in the season, hoping to acheive the winning Premiership team setup.

	Meanwhile in Southampton FC, young forward Kevin Davis, £750K signing from Chesterfield, made an immediate impact, notching 12 goals in 23 Premiership appearances. He has impressed Roy Hodgson that the latter convinced Southampton to release him for £7.5m. It seems he will be an ideal partner for Chris Sutton. However Davies' spell with Rovers proved to be a disaster as he failed to recapture the scoring form he had shown in his first season with Southampton. Scoring 2 goals in 30 games was too much for relegation fighter Rovers. Egil Ostenstad was signed, and Davies returned to Southampton in the swap deal. Roy Hodgson had left leaving Blackburn Rovers bound for relegation following a humiliating home defeat by Southampton. The signing of Davies costs the club a hefty £7.5m transfer fee, and unforgivable relegation from the Premiership eventually.

	Barry Ferguson (Midfielder) - £7.5m from Glasgow Rangers, (August 2003) Most Blackburn Rovers supporters would agree that Barry Ferguson is a flop, whether Barry himself and his new employer Birmingham City's manager Alex McLeish would disagree otherwise. In 17th Nov 2004, Graeme Souness signed 25-year-old Barry Ferguson for £7.5m on a four year deal. Rangers had severe financial problems back then. Barry was made captain of the team in July 2004. Subsequently in January 2005, Barry and his wife became homesick, and submitted a transfer request. Despite manager Mark Hughes reluctance to sell, he is keen to return to Rangers. Rangers bought Ferguson back at the last hour of the transfer window for £4.5m, making a cool £3m profit. Barry Ferguson spent an unsatisfactory 16-month spell, with a lengthy 8 months sidelined with injuries.
